About Yasagam Foundation
Many people around the world were physically and financially affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Among those most affected were the elderly, destitute, and homeless people who lived on the streets. Many of them suffered from hunger, unable to get even a single meal.
In our neighbourhood, we came across more than 15 elderly people who were suffering from hunger. We teamed up with some of the young people in our area to provide them with daily meals. We have continued this service even after the pandemic ended.
Over time, the number of poor people who were depending on us for food started to increase. At the same time, seeing our service, some more youngsters joined us and helped with the food distribution. We are currently providing food to 100 needy people.
As the next phase of our service, we have expanded our efforts to support various charitable organizations in our area. We now provide essential groceries and medical supplies to homes for people with mental disabilities, people affected by leprosy, and old age homes. We also donate sanitary napkins for women and adult diapers for the elderly, in addition to organising blood donation drives and educational support to students.
We have been providing this service since 2020 with the help of our friends and the young people in our area. In 2024, we officially registered our organization with the government and named it Yasagam Foundation.
As the next phase of our service, we are working to establish a free library and a computer training center to help with the education of poor students. We firmly believe that all these efforts will be made possible with the support and assistance of volunteers.
Why the Name “Yasagam Foundation"?
The word Yasagam means "begging." We chose this name because our mission is to beg—not for ourselves, but for those in need. Many orphanages, old age homes, poor families, and students with bright futures depend on donations to survive and grow. Some children can’t go to school because of poverty. Some families need help with food or medical care. At Yasagam Foundation, we stand for them. We reach out to kind-hearted donors and ask for support on their behalf.
We believe that by begging for others, we can bring hope and change many lives. Yasagam Foundation is a voice for the voiceless and a helping hand for the helpless.
